seven day Orientation programme was organised for the Previous students to
familiarise them with the work ethics of the Institute, as well as the format of

Mr. Atanu Bhattacharya from the Institute and Mr. Nikhil Pandya and Dr. Nusrat

two-day visit to Anandalaya was organised for the Final year students for an
orientation in classroom teaching practice. This
academic year saw a unique programme that was introduced in the MA [ELT]
syllabus. This was the TALL—Technology Aided Language Learning—aided by the
INTEL, the internationally renowned computer company. The Final year students of
MA [ELT] were given an intensive training in computers so that they could use
technology for the purposes of language teaching. The students of the Final Year
then prepared a series of contextualised grammar lessons by using computer graphics
and images and taught the first year students of Nalini and Arvind Arts College
with the help of these technologically aided materials. The students of Previous
year acted as observers during the teaching sessions.
Dr. Ranganayaki Srinivas coordinated the entire programme. We are
extremely happy to state that the TALL project was entered for a national level
competition organised by INTEL, in which the students of the Institute won the
first-prize. The credit for this
goes to the hard work of MA [ELT] students. Dr. Ranganayaki Srinivas was awarded
the best teacher educator award in this competition. A

between 11th of December and the 23rd of December, 2003.
The students were taken to the CIEFL for the purpose of exposing them to the
wider ELT scenario. During the tour, the students attended classes in the
morning and consulted the library in the afternoons. The trip, according to the
students, was a gratifying experience and helped them to in their academic
career. Mr. Atanu Bhattacharya escorted the students. The students who did not
participate in the education tour were sent for an internship programme to the T
V Patel Higher Secondary School for an internship programme. These students
assisted the teachers in their daily work as well as engaged some classes with
the higher secondary students. They also made the students participate in a
number of co-curricular activities like skit, drama, debate and elocutions. One
of those skits was also video-recorded. During
the Education tour for the previous year students, a literature-workshop was
organised by Dr. Ranganayaki Srinivas for the Final-year students. The workshop focused
on using literature for the purpose of language teaching. Another
education tour was organised for the Final year students to the Regional
Institute of English, Bangalore between 10th of February and 21st
