Evaluating
the Effectiveness of Introducing
Technology Aided Teaching in the M. A. [ELT] Final Year Curriculum With a view to Preparing a Set of
Recommendations to Improve the Programme. In the
new millennium where technology has already occupied a special place in our
life, no teacher education programme can be complete without equipping the
future teachers with the skills of using this medium which has infinite
potential. This
study analyses the effectiveness of integrating technology in the M. A. ELT
curriculum. The research begins with the analysis of the M. A. [ELT] curriculum
so as to identify the areas suitable for integrating TAL in such a way that it
becomes an integral part of the curriculum. Then keeping in mind the types of
topics that students can take up for Portfolio work, a set of
support materials are prepared including
PowerPoint Presentations, handouts, digital self learning materials and
samples of newsletters, websites and booklets. The problems faced by the M. A.
ELT students are analysed by informal feedback as well as a series of reflective
reports that they are asked to write as part of the programme. Through the M. A.
ELT students, their parents’ and relatives’ opinions are also collected. The
responses of the first year B. A. students who were taught by the M. A. ELT
students are obtained. The computer Instructors’ problems as well as his
perception of the students’ problems are collected through a questionnaire. A
set of recommendations are worked out on the basis of the analysis of the data
collected.

Project was selected as the best integration of technology by the Intel ®
Corporation and has secured the National Award for 2003.
